RetireRange

About

Built because the free calculators didn’t answer the real questions

RetireRange started with a frustration. Like a lot of people a decade or so from retirement, its creator had the usual mix — a few 401(k)s, an IRA or two, some taxable savings, Social Security decisions looming — and the usual questions. Can I retire at 60? When should I claim Social Security? What happens to the survivor? How much can I actually spend without running out? What would happen if I lost my job today?

The free online calculators gave back a single confident number built on the fiction that the future is knowable. The honest answer to every one of those questions isn’t a number — it’s a range, and a probability. And the tools that could show a range were either oversimplified, or locked inside a financial advisor’s office where you couldn’t touch the inputs or test your own ideas.

So we built the tool we wanted: a planner-grade Monte Carlo model that’s actually yours to drive.

What we believe

  • Your retirement isn’t one number. It’s a range. We’d rather show you the full spread of outcomes — and your real odds — than a tidy, false certainty.
  • You should control the model. Every assumption is in your hands. Change anything, run it again, and watch your odds move. The experimenting is the value.
  • Honesty over hype. We’re direct about what the model does and what it doesn’t. It’s a model, not a crystal ball — and we’ll never pretend it can predict the future.
  • A complement to your advisor, not a replacement. RetireRange is the prep work that makes you a sharper participant in your own plan and your next advisor conversation better. If you don’t have an advisor, it helps you figure out whether you need one.

Who it’s for

Anyone who wants to understand their own retirement math — whether that’s decades away or already underway. The features bite hardest for people nearing retirement (Social Security timing, the Medicare gap, Roth conversions, surviving-spouse planning), but nothing is gated by age. If you’re curious and willing to put in your real numbers, it’s for you.
